What a beautiful book! The Single Mother's Guide to Raising Remarkable Boys is one of the finest new parenting books that I have seen in a while. The balanced and accurate summary of parenting research is a breath of fresh air. The advice is sensible and well grounded in both research and the experiences of parents. The affirmation of single mothers and the wonderful children they raise is overdue. An engaging writing style also makes the book a good read.
The Single Mother's Guide to Raising Remarkable Boys resonated with me both professionally and personally. Professionally, I have three advanced degrees in behavioral sciences and most of my research has involved parenting and child development. On a personal note, my own mother raised three boys and two girls as a single mother for many years. From both the professional and personal perspectives I must say that these authors got it right!
I can't think of any parent who wouldn't benefit from the view of parenthood presented here.

This is an excellent book and the title tells you exactly where the author excels. Written for busy, stressed-out single mothers who are trying to understand (?) and raise boys --- this book is hugely helpful.
After a long time when there didn't seem to be any books for us single moms --- now there is hope. I highly recommend this book to any woman who is raising sons, especially pre-adolescents or adolescents.
I also recommend the book listed below, which is here on Amazon too.

Love it! Love it! Love it! Cudos to Cassandra for having the insight and courage to write this gem of a book. Every single mother should have a copy of this book. It touches on so many important issues that I don't know where to begin. You'll learn not to beat yourself up over things that are out of your control. You'll learn how to tune out negativity from others so that you can focus on living your best life. You'll also learn what to look for and what not to look for in a mate. It's a small book that packs a big punch.
What I like most about it, besides the practical information was that I felt like Cassandra was right here with me. I feel like she understood my pain and my hopes for the future.

Much needed motivation and clear advise, December 9, 2008

This book has a lot of advise that can actually help any busy woman, not just a single mom, about believing in yourself and how to have that self respect you need. The encouraging parts would really help a newly single mom too, especially the one that says it's okay to grieve after a divorce. The advise is just very down to earth and candid, and I love the format. There's a wise saying and then an essay on it, so you could read one a day and focus on taking those small steps each day. I'd recomend this for any woman and especially for moms looking for a boost to their confidence.

I use to wonder if other people realize that divorce is like a death. This book is written from this perspective and helps you understand that it is okay to grieve. Divorce is tough and it hard adjusting to your new life especially if you are a parent. The book gives you words of wisdom which are followed by essays. It shows you have to be tough and strong during this critical time which allows you to grow.
If you need encouragement and support during/ after a divorce, then buy this book.

She teaches them to find strength and wisdom as they allow Christ to be their partner in very real ways--helping them raise their children. From financial concerns to passing on macho, Single Moms Raising Sons supplies honest insight, unifying encouragement, and practical applications to guide mothers as they raise their boys to be the solid, Christian men they want them to be.

This review is from: Single Moms Raising Sons: Preparing Boys to Be Men When There's No Man Around (Paperback)

This book captures single-motherhood from a whole new angle. There are plenty of books on surviving single parenting, but none that approach it from the perspective of God in the Father's seat. Chisholm's first-hand experience makes her an ideal author and her unique insight is an asset to single mom's everywhere.

I love this book. I have tried to read books on raising your child on your own but found them dull, preachy, not applicable, etc. But this book is wonderful, light hearted, humorous, inspiring and insightful. There are many ideas that I am going to use and I also found a closer bond in my faith. I am reassured and a little less worried after finishing this book. It's nice to know I am not alone and I am not the only one who thinks and worries over little things!

Wow, it's about time somebody wrote a book about this! I have experience in trying to raise my boys without their dad in the house, so I can immediately relate to this author.
I was surprised by how much humor is here --- plus how much help. It's nice to know that we don't struggle alone, other people have been here too, and they've learned some things to pass along!
